Salaam everyone,

here is a little guide on how i started my lemon seedlings.

ToDo list:

1)Remove coating of the seeds
2)Put in wet paper towel (completely covered), inside a plastic bag in a warm spot
3)Plant them

After you collected the seed(s) wash them of, when you washed al seed(s) you can peele the outer skins(2 layers) of.

1)To peel it, i recommend useing a cutter and do it carefully. cut around the outer edge of the outer casing of the seed when you have made a small incision you can peele it open with your fingers.
The layers will come of easily , but becareful of damaging the inner seed. Once the first layes is removed you will see a brown layer that layer can also be removed what you have left is the inner seed.

2)put them over a wet paper towel in a sealed plastic bag, in almost full sun
(Within a week the seed will open and begin to start growing a root)

3)when the root is big enough (about 3 cm's ,thats roughly after 2 weeks) you can plant them.

Wa alaikum salam

Congrats . Its great to see ur lemon seeds germinating mashallah. I want to ask that what do u mean by removing its coating ? Why to do that ? Are there other seeds too which are treated that way before u sow them or lemon only ? What i see in the picture u have posted is that u split that seed into two ? Why is that necessary ? Won't that germinate if sowed as it is , like we sow the other seeds ?

I did the same thing about a month ago with 3 seeds and got them to germinate..they are about the same size as yours now :) How long does it take for them to grow a lemon?

Lemon seeds and orange seeds have a white/waxy coating around the seed..i guess for protection..you can grab the pointy part and just peel it off and you find a brown seed inside...i think you peel it so the seed can easily absorb moisture...also the seed splits by itself..i don't think Saif split the seed...it happens when the seed is germinating...im sure lemon, lime, orange and all citrus fruits have the same process

i will post pics soon :D

@foreveryoung may i refer you to the post of pwr_wrx he litterly took the word out of my mouth.

but removing the coatings is not really necessary to germinate the seeds, it just makes it go faster (just like with a mango seed)

@pwr_wrx its nice to hear that your seeds are germinating well, i'm afraid i cant tell you exactly how long it takes for them to grow a lemon. But approximately within the first 5 years they can produce fruit(small amounts) and after the first 5 years it will start bulking up in bigger amounts.

Looking forward to your'e pictures
