This is it! We have a lot to do.
The last picture shows what I managed to do in two hours! We have since been down there with a gas-flame gun, but it has barely touched it. we need to try to hire something much bigger, or it will take us until this time next year to weed it. No point in rotovating, as there are some nasty weeds there - horse's tail, dockweed, bindweed. Oh well, it keeps us busy!

Ha ha. Yes it is certainly overgrown. Will go down there again today to try to clear some more. We are laying down grass cuttings on the sections we have managed to clear, in an effort to smother any weeds tempted to try and push through. Hopefully it will be clear enough by spring for us to get some tatties in; and perhaps some fruit bushes.
Thanks Riz for moving my post and starting a new thread for me. Much obliged.

Well, we were down the allotment for four hours on Saturday and three hours yesterday and feel we are getting somewhere! Have put in some Early potatoes and some Maincrop, as well as a row of garlic. Not too convinced the garlic will do well though, as the soil is very claggy; and I know it prefers free draining soil. Oh well, will see what happens. At least we now feel we are getting somewhere. Was going to take pics today, but the camera is out of memory! Will post an update when I can.
Whilst down there, we were being followed around by a robin; and a blue tit was very interested in one of the nesting boxes. It was wonderful to see it nosing into the hole, whilst we were holding our breath to see if it would actually go in. What a lovely spot we have; and how very lucky we are in this country to be able to sit and enjoy the birds and the peace.
Happy gardening everyone.

This is a very slow process and very little has changed since we first took over the plot. Our excuse is that we have had little time; and very heavy soil earlier in the year. Still, it is a work in progress and we are plodding on.
The first picture shows the potatoes over by the compost bin in the corner, with the onions and garlic near the spade.
The second picture is more of the potato area.
The third is looking back from the potatoes towards the onions/garlic. Mind you, we have not been able to get there in about three weeks; and there may now be signs of our carrots and peas.
The final picture is of some poppies in our back garden. They were so beautiful, I just could not resist capturing them.
