I've never had the fruit, but it's said to make a good container plant, looks interesting and is supposed to taste good, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Also, they're supposed to fruit in only 2 years.
Site with detailed information on it: http://www.hort.purdue.edu/newcrop/morton/sugar_apple.html
I scarified four seeds and am trying to germinate them via the paper towel/baggie method. Everything I've read indicates that the month+ germination time comes from not scarifying or soaking the seeds prior to attempting germination.
It'll be an interesting adventure!

Looks like about a month might be the average germination time.
Seems to be growing that little root very, very slowly. A bump formed there around a week or two ago and the root only emerged in the last few days.
A couple others that I didn't scarify as extremely as this one have started cracking, which I assume means they're germinating, too.

Well, failure for me on the sugar apple. About half of them just didn't germinate, couple I left in the bag too long and the one that seemed to be doing okay didn't come out of the seed properly, so all I was left with was a little stem.
Oh well, maybe I'll try again one day!

My little plant had lost all it's leaves by December and so I moved it inside and kept watering to a minimum and very slowly new leaves emerged. Recently I moved it back outside and into a bigger pot but now it looks like the leaves are wilting away slowly. I can't figure out what to do with this plant. It is very sensitive to everything and it grows extremely slow. At this rate it will never even grow a branch. Any ideas on what to do?
