I think I grew about 6 store bought cantaloupe plants last year. None of the melons got gigantic, but they tasted wonderful. Just have to be careful and pick them when they're really ripe as they stem will come loose from the melon very, very easily when they're nearing ripe, but not actually there yet.

@ Riz No, Not Watermelon Riz Cantaloupe. There ain't no Balcony Riz, only windowsill :shy: so yes officially crazy hehehe
@ Sarah Fruit not animal hehehe :) If I had miss a "C" then definitely it would have become an animal.
@Carcharos If it gets to that point I'll definitely make sure they are ripe.

Whoa, windowsill. That'll be interesting, at least. I didn't take into account how big their vines get and it was just a giant mess of vines in their section of the garden last year.

Maybe if you only let 1-2 vines really develop?

Assuming these are the cantaloupes. My son fought with one seedling and broke it. I thought i should bury it deeper and may be it'd come back. If not, oh well, I still have 3 more to experiment with.

The cantaloupe has long roots. You will need a very deep pot.

Can you grow cantaloupe from seeds? You know after you've eaten the flesh?

I am new to this but i think you sure can. I guess just wast them, dry and sow them. I bought a packet of seeds from Home Depot assuming they would be of better quality and disease resistant. I could be wrong though, and all seeds are probably same whether from fruit bought from a corner market or packet seeds.

Wsalaam. If you look at my Cantaloupe seedling in post # 9 it does look like it. But you can't tell until there'll be true leaves. I believe I read it somewhere something Riz said about this seedling. It could be cuke, may be squash, zuccini or something of that type : ) Any updated picture?

One of these didn't survive on the roof. The one at my friends house has 3 cantaloupes on it. Now I see what kind seeds i had bought last year :)

Change the pot. May be this is the problem.

I wish it was the pot. It was damn birds and squirrels. Birds starting playin in the soil and the next day it was just pulled out of the soil and the recent heat wave :0001: it up. I brought it down and watered it well :0002: hoping it'd come back but it was just :sick3: Oh well :( I'm hoping the one at my friend's house will survive and he'll be able to enjoy it.

Mashallah these are getting bigger. There are two of them. Zoomed the pictures and checking up close :) My wife sneeked up on me from behind and was like "They look good rite? What you looking at them and getting all happy? U will never get to eat them" only because they are at my friend's house.
