Salaam everyones..
My elderly neighbour who lives opposite me has this great acidic blue in colour hydrangea bush, SO today i asked him for some cuttings and the kind old man obliged
here is a pic of it, its shooting out stems everywhere on its branches, so i took around 5 small cuttings, and of course leave the upper leafs on the stem..

the cuttings are about 4 inches in length. snip of the lower shooting tips

Take a clean sharp scalpel/knife and scrape away ( gently) the outer skin exposing the green stem underneath

I have some rooting powder which i have had for a while, so i wetted the bottom of the stem by just submerging them in glass of water so it helps the powder to stick to the stem

I usually pour tiny amounts of the powder on to a dish, and never dip the stem into the bottle as if the stem is contaminated/diseased all the powder will be spoilt...

i have the small seedling pots ready, and i made sure i made a hole in each pot, so i can stick the stem in with the rooting powder still attached to the stem, if i pushed the stem in to the soil without making a hole first, the powder would be scraped of by the soil..
firm the soil down nice and gently

Place cuttings in bright light. NEVER PLACE NEW CUTTINGS IN THE SUN. They will cook , they should be placed in a bright shady area.
Do not water again until top of soil begins to feel slightly dry. Over watering will cause cuttings to rot. Naturally the stems have not developed a root system yet, so the leaves extract the moisture from the air, you can help the cuttings along by spraying/misting the leafs with water ever other day or something, Use a clear plastic bag and cover cuttings this will help to retain the moisture so you wont need to mist the cuttings too often...........
Expect cuttings to begin to form roots in 2-3 weeks depending on temperature (faster in warm weather) and humidity. Some cuttings root in as little as one week. If a tug on the cutting resists the pull, it is rooting.

Weird! I didn't know you could do hydrangeas from cutting! Will have to try with my mom's gorgeous hydrangea plants in the backyard sometime :D

a pic of the cutting that has been rooted :)
i could have done a better job on keeping them warm though... thats the key to rooting them, keep them at room temps and reflected light :)

i am well pleased with this little plant, it hasn't grown much lately because of the weather but it has established a really healthy rootball, another one that will be growing in the ground next season :)

i finally potted my hydrangea cutting into the ground, i found some space near the bamboo bush but not to close to it..buried it deep and gave it a good watering and scattered some slug/snial pellets around the base of the plant.
