Asalam alaikam,

what inspired you to start planting?

It's kind of just the done thing in my own family, granddad's always had a keen interest and it's rubbed of on everyone else.

What piqued my interest is fond memories of visiting my grandparents (late 1960's) in the country and eating yellow meat watermelons from their garden. Gardening is a part of the simple country life we have chosen and part of it is a sense of family heritage. I remember a cowpea that my grandparents grew, but was not able to find 'Rotten Crowders' anywhere. I recently found a 'Washday' pea that sounded similar and ordered some seed. Subhan'Allah, I believe that it is the same pea.

As a child, our garden was about 120 feet long and most of it was turned over to vegetables. My dad loved his garden and we had all sorts of goodies. In fact, he had so many cucumbers he used to take them into work; and gained a nickname of "El Cucumber"! No idea why, as he was not Spanish! Anyway, not long after I bought my first home (a flat) my darling daddy died. At the edge of the car park was a fairly long, narrow strip of land and I dug it up and used it for potatoes, mint, and other bits and bobs. I found it so therapeutic and a lovely way to still connect with my dad, but help keep my mind off my worries. I've loved gardening ever since; and now have a small veggie plot in our garden, as well as a greenhouse and an allotment that is in such a state that it will take months to clear.

Gardening Is my hobby
A hobby is an activity that takes place during leisure time. It is a means of recreation and not make money. It gives you pleasure and helps to spend your free time. Any activity carried out in order to earn money remains a source of pleasure. It becomes tedious. A hobby, by contrast, is an activity that takes place entirely for the sake of the pleasure it gives. Therefore, teaching is a source of pleasure for a teacher who carries out the teaching profession. But it can be a source of pleasure for anyone who makes his hobby.

Hobbies differ from person to person. There are as many hobbies as there are men and women in the world. Tastes differ and so do their hobbies. Someone can have the stamp collection as their hobby, while another may find pleasure in reading books. Stamp collecting, coin collecting, photography, swimming, gardening, kite flying, etc, are some common interests.

Gardening is my hobby. I great pleasure of this hobby. In the back of my house, there is a small plot of land. It is my garden. I grow flowers and some vegetables of the season in this plot. Besides this, I have a number of flower pots in which I grew some plants are green and some flowering plants. I let my love in the morning as soon as I got out of bed, or at night after returning from my college. I do not let my love come in the way of my studies. I carry on gardening only in my time bar.

My hobby is a good hobby. It is useful in many ways. It gives me pleasure. I refresh what I'm tired after a day of hard work. In the morning, I get in touch with green plants and flowers. In this way the lungs fill with air. This is good for health. My hobby is to health. Besides this, it provides the family with vegetables. My hobby has another advantage too. It's pretty cheap. Which imposes no additional burden on my parents.
