Will do Asap inshALLAH... The "olives" thread looks quite dormant so iI thought I'd rather post my question here...
See in December 2006 I took a trip to Jordan, we stopped at an Olive tree and brought some fruit back home... Its a crazy question but, does anyone think that those olive seeds have a chance at survival if planted? if so, how??? Jazaks...

Assalamualaikum everyone..
I'm Muhammad Faiz from Malaysia.
I started a small project during my holiday.
I planted 2 mango seed.

1st seed i planted earlier this month

2nd seed i planted weeks after the 1st seed started to grow.

Attachment : photos

1st photo - My first seed.
2nd photo - My first seed 4 days after the 1st photo was taken
3rd photo - My 2nd seed. Fast grow. Have few leafs.

I don't know why my 1st mango tree didn't grow leaves like the 2nd one until now. Can you guys help me?
I put it outside yesterday because it's disappointing me..huhu...

looks like its stretching for the light.. that stem is really long.. leave it in the sunniest place you have...

That's a very stretchy mango plant, amazing. I think you need to cover the entire seed in the soil. Will make the stem stronger. What do you think Riz? What happened to the leaves in the first picture and what variety is it?

Hmm not sure hayat too be honest...

i left my two mango pants outdoors after hardening them off for the last two weeks... They did no growing for the last week atall.. but one of them is now growing small leafs and is beginning to grow after a period of being dormant

the other looks completely knackered but even that now is beginning to show signs of recovery

What happened to it? Did you top it off for multiple stems? The big one is about 3', when you do think i should snip off the top for more stems? Mine will be going on the roof this weekend. I am almost done with the cage. Since I have them in my window sill and it gets direct sunlight for about 4-5 hrs, do I still have to harden them? Everything will go up on the roof, inshallah if everything goes well.

i have left both of them outdoors and i guess because of the warm weather more shooting tips are growing.. it really slowed down for a bout 2 weeks and now its growing again really well, shoots are still tiny though...

how is the cage doing ???

My dream of cage on the roof is shattered :( The frame(5'x5'x8') is done but I thought I should ask my landlady b4 I put the chicken wire on it and move my plants on the roof If someone complaints then city officials gets involved. Well, she said I can't do it. Her husband doesn't want anyone on the roof, security reasons. Ahhhh, I guess they stay in the window.

its been a while since i updated on this thread, here are the latest pics of the 2 mangos that have been outdoors for a while.. i must admit they stopped growing for the first 4 weeks but recently have really taken off, i am getting lots of side and upper growth from both plants.. the taller ones leafs crumpled away so i snipped them off and now have new growth growing from them...

I followed your instructions about two weeks ago and got a seed to germinate. I picked up some potting soil today along w/ a grow light. I placed vertically in the soil with just a little bit peeking out. I watered it until the pot started draining water. Once that stopped flowing I set it under my grow light. The light is about three inches from the bulbs to the top of the soil. I'm hoping to put the light on for about 12~14 hours at a time. Any suggestions at this point?

Did I mention I've never grown anything in my life?

:)

For my next trick I'm going to plant some plums and maybe apples.

I have large rock wall in my backyard that was covered with blackberries. It took 40 man hours and a chainsaw but I finally got rid of them. I'm hoping to put fruit trees up there in the spring. Plums and apples do quite well here.

I'm going to be starting in on the plums this week. I'll let you know how it goes.

I gave my inlaws a mango tree a year ago and its 2+ years old now. But the leaves are starting to turn brown..all of them!! any idea?? could this be from lack of sunlight because they have brought it inside since its been cold..

^ whats the latest on that mango tree ?

here is mine , its been indoors since august 2010, lack of light inside the house so it hasn't grown much but still green and healthy :)

I think it's from the mosquito repellant my father in law sprayed on it. Killed all the leaves. There's little shoots coming out jus like in your last pic. But some of the tips go brown and they don't grow. I'm hoping for the leaves to grow out!!!

Two of my Pakistani mango plants are history. One is almost about to become history. I don't know why it's not growing. I changed the compost over the weekend and hope it'd start growing.

Maybe you'll call me a murderer, but I hadn't read this page before, promised!
I just stumbled upon an article about mango kernel oil... and I tried to isolate it. So I let some mango kernels dry some days and today I opened one. And it smells so good that I'm tempted of eating it or using it as butter. But I'm not sure whether this is how it's supposed to look like, is it healthy or has it got a fungus?
Behind: the empty husk.
From left to right: the "inner peel" of the seed, the "peeled seed", the seed cut in longitudinal section.
Can anyone help me? Have you ever eaten mango seeds?

PS: with the resting seeds I'll try to germinate them.

My mango had lost its leaves and the branches were turning black...so i put it in the shade and cut the bad leaves off and eventually the rest of the leaves fell off...but i kept giving it a little bit of water every few days and now its recovering nicely...new leaves are coming in...its a 2 year old...good thing its still alive...that would be 2 years down the drain....it took a very long time for the leaves to come so i suggest u just keep it for a couple months and see if it recovers

The last Pakistani variety I had is also gone :( After I changed the soil it started turning black and drying from top and dried to the rootball. Just threw it away. I will try to get some again this year.

its not a good idea to eat the "pit", it has probably moulded away if its pasty like butter.. its better if you ate the mango instead, thats the usual way :)

I love mangos :)

Pakistani mango are renowned through out the world for being one of the best...

looks like you got a decent amount of mangos from you tree !!!!?

the mango plant i have outdoors is sprouting more little bud sites, still growing slowly outdoors, we get one day of warm weather followed by 3 days of overcast and cloudy weather.

I am going to start 'em again once i lay my hand on pakistani mango seed. I hear they are coming this year here. I have learnt a lesson by trying to graft them too soon. All three are :sick3:Two mexican variety growing but that's just for fun. Not too much :tree-huggin: for 'em :)

My plants have shot up a few inches in the last couple days...i dunno y..i think all the bugs are gone and now they can grow :) and its around 110 degrees F outside...They got so tall so quick that they are all drooping over. I had to use sticks and tie them so they can stay up straight..ill take pics...i think they are a little over 1 1/2 yrs old now ..only 6 more years to go until i get some mangoes

I think they are growing 'coz of high temp. They love heat.
