salam..
i got hold of some "mungh daal" thought ill try to germinate them indoors.. and hopefully grow on under tube lights, maybe just a few plants, just to see how big i can get them , hopefully next season i can grow them outdoors...
i used a plastic germination tray and planted the seeds in rows.. gave them a light sprinkle of water, covered with some cling film and left next to a radiator..

i will "prick" the little baby seedlings out of the tray, select the ones i need and "cull" the rest of them, and then re-plant the seedlings into individual pots and then stick them under some 35watt tube lights...

what do you mean by "prick" and "cull" not used to gardening terms :o

hi sakeena.
pricking out just means using a spatula or similar, to remove the baby seedling and re-potting in another pot like i did.. and culling just means discarding the rest of the seedlings.. Basically i didn't know if the germination rate was going to be 100% so i germinated a lot of seeds, so i only wanted around 8 plants, and now i have them i culled the rest of the seedlings.

I wanted to but ive had no room to grow indoors unless i clean out one of the spare bedrooms, i could have grown the mung daal outdoors this season but i was growing a lot of other things, but i do have an indoor chili grow under 2 x400 watt HPS lights.
here is a link to it http://www.muslimgrower.com/discussionforum/showthread.php?t=36

Cor, they grew well! Is this topic really from 2008 though? If so you must be getting plenty of lentils from it still in the summer time.
