we have picked enough spinach over the last few weeks to make a few good meals. if you do not take spinach out of the ground from their roots but leave them in they will keep growing throughout the year and you can get fresh spinach for salads, fried in batter is nice etc

Yup my mum sows spinach only once and it lasts her for many months!! And she picks it almost every week!! Cut it with scissors from the leaf stem, leave the main centre part intact :butterfly3:

I've had some trouble getting spinach to germinate.. it's not that the seeds get moldy, they just don't sprout.

How did you guys get the seeds to germinate?

I just scattered the seeds on the ground and covered it loosely with some compost? It grows quite fast :)

I sow them at 2 cm(underground), leaving 20 cm between seeds. They need a sunny place to grow.

Any luck Psypomp? And how is it going Tania? I'm not a big spinach fan, otherwise I would have tried it!

The spinach which survived was covered by snow and thats why,i think, was protected against frost.
This spring i already begun to sow the seeds and i will continue this weekend too :p (i like the spinach) and when they will have the first 2 leaves i will begin to water them each week with a mixture : water and little chicken manure(i learned that from Riz). Thats all.

To can pick up the spinach you must have between 16-18 celsius degrees. If its more than that then the spinach will bloom (will not make leaves). I tried this last summer and nothing came out.
