My parents always grew their own veg and the veg you buy in shops etc simply doesn't taste as good :p

it started with beans in primary school, with the bean grow, followed by some sunflowers.
then nothing completely unintrested, until i realised how much nicer ripe fruits from plum/apple trees were than supermarket ones. then i holiday to pakistan with lots of date palms and sugar cane and mangoes. tropics and food, inshallah one day in my garden everywhere.

My parents gave me about 3 square feet of garden to have as my own when I was about 6.

So you decided to continue growing your own eh?

Is that all?
I'm quite fascinated with the idea of growing things, I dunno why, just seeing something flourish from seed is quite amazing Subhan Allah. Didn't grow anything much prior to last march, apart from some dahlias maybe when I was 10? Anywhoo, I was getting reaaaally stressed out last year and needed a break from life as it was, so I started growing things. A little odd but hey :o

Yeah, I was growing my own in Britain anyway.... although never that much cause we kept moving house. I had plants I could transport with me and stick on the windowsill. Since I came to Saudi I haven't managed to be organised enough to grow anything yet :( it got really hot (like over 50 centigrade) earlier this year than last year, and I'm worried its too hot to grow much. Plus I want to get my daughter involved inshaAllah. I'm going to the UK in a couple of weeks so planning on raiding I mean looking at my parents soft fruit and vegetable plots :p
There really is nothing like home grown strawberries, is there? They grow all kinds of things but I *just so happen* to be visiting during the strawberry season :)

We had quite a large garden growing up and so many of my childhood memories are from messing about in the garden with my sisters and friends using the green house and the shed as our play-homes and getting up to all sorts of mischief. We had a pigeon house as well with about 10 fancy pigeons who pooped everywhere yuk.
The neighbours Bob & Shirley had a reaaaally beautiful garden, really inspiring and some kid in glasses used to bring his sketch pad and pencils, sit there and draw all the different flowers they grew. Those gardens you could sit happily in on a summers evening undisturbed just enjoying the air and tranquillity.
After we moved from there we all kind of lost interest because we changed houses every so often but I've always loved nature and just had the odd house-plant to tend to (mini-roses, peace lily etc.) but seeing Riz's pictures and all the different ideas flowing around this site inspired me to get more active in the new garden.
Ever since joining Muslim grower though I tend to notice everyone's gardens on the way home and the countryside in the local county and even started asking people what they're growing in their own gardens lol.
