View Full Version : Sour Potatoes- Khattay Aaloo

Asalaam O Alaikum and Hello everyone :)
I've been wanting to cook and post here for sooooooo many days... I just didn't get time....but I promised Riz...so here is my first recipe... Its a Pakistani dish and goes nice with Boiled Rice or Bread... It will tingle your taste buds :P

You'll need:

Baby Potatoes 5-6 boiled with skin.
Garlic Cloves-crushed-2.
Oil-2 tb spoons.
Fenugreek seeds 5-6 seeds.
Salt-Crushed Red Chili According to your taste.
Turmeric Powder...Half Tspoon.
Almonds 5-6-Finely grounded.
Coconut -Fine;y grounded 2 tb spoons.
Tamarind Chutney 1 cup or more. (Tamarind Paste-sugar-salt-chili blended together)


To Prepare:

1. Boil the potatoes on slow heat till they are soft from the center.
2. Do not remove the skin and discard the water.

3.Arrange all the ingredients...

4.Heat up the oil and fry Fenugreek seeds....when they turn brown, add crushed garlic...and fry.. quickly add finely grounded Almonds and Coconut.

5.When all of it turns little goldenish... Add the spices and mix in the tamarind sauce... (At this point...taste it...you might like to add more salt or sugar...Its mouth watering good!)

6.Add Boiled Potatoes and half cup of water..

7. Cook for 5-6 mins on medium flames and Serve hot...garnish with sesame seeds..

looks delicious and like the traditional stews my mum makes, though we never cook potatoes on their own, they are always with lamb, or chicken, or keema(mince)

Its a Pakistani dish and goes nice with Boiled Rice or Bread

or some roti(chapati):):)

i can smell the aroma from the pics :) and it does look delicious

and it doesn't seem to hard i may try doing it :) i will let you know how i get on !!!


and yes i agree aloo keema.. the best :)

ive just had boneless chicken in a stew with soft naan bread covered with ghee..... it was so delicious, i was going to lick the plate clean, but that's bad manners :)



ps.. pashmeena is a great chef, she can make lots of things, she really is talented.

mmmmmmmmm that sounds sooooo good! I have some potatoes in the fridge but I think nothing else on that list except for garlic and oil LOL.. maybe I can make a really bland version of it for dinner :p
