I know that a few of you have kids so I thought I'd post a few websites containing ways for you to enjoy the gardening experience with them and inshaAllah you will teach them some valuable lessons along the way.

This is a great idea, parents should get more youngsters involved in planting and growing stuff - its great fun!! :GreenThumbs:

waalaikumussalam obsidian, I agree it’s a great idea. I do all my gardening with my younger brother and sister, they love watching the seeds they planted grow. They even have competition on whose plant has grown the tallest etc.

It's a great way to teach them to care for their environment and teaches them about Allah's creations such from ants, foxes to birds and bees and how to appreciate them all.

^^ Brilliant ideas! Competitions and stuff, and you're so right it does teach them so much!

If anybody else does any kind of gardening with the children please post it here so that other people can learn from your example.

Walaikam asalaam,

my younger brother helped me turn over the soil and make new plant beds but that's more like child labor but for the reasons Sakeena mentioned it would be nice to get him more involved so i'll have to take him to the Hurrans garden center again and pick something to work on maybe a salad patch :GreenThumbs:

Child labour?! Haha :p I think it's a great idea to do as Sakeena does, start something from seed with them, that way they are involved in the whole process from start to finish - it'd be especially wonderful if you started a fruit/veg plant with them, that way they can enjoy the fruits of their labour at the end!

Aww lol mash'Allah who says kids don't come in handy :p I let a friends 6 year old cousin loose on the garden a few days ago. She planted some tomatoes, onions, spinach, cucumber, cress, Bizzy Lizzy, watered the flowers in the front garden and wanted to stay until it went dark lol so she could plant chili, definitely a future-gardener insh'Allah. She came around the next day and asked if they had grown at all bless :)

Anyone got any good Saudi climate ideas for involving my daughter who will be three in july in gardening? She's good with her hands, like good at drawing and stuff, she managed to remove four screws from one of the coffee tables such that the table top is now separate from the legs, and she's been able to open the safety gates in the kitchen and bathroom for months so I think inshaAllah gardening will be within her capabilities :p InshaAllah I'm going to involve her in my own gardening projects by showing her things and letting her "help" but I thought it would be nice if she had a gardening project of her own.
