When they look like this:

can be used in salads, sandwiches...in other recipes. In their place will come the beans

Riz - I thought you could eat the whole thing  (I don't like the leaves but people do eat them!)
Tania - both names are fine :p I just didn't know what a green onion was! It goes by the names 'spring onion', 'green onion', 'salad onion' and 'scallion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scallion)'.
Tania
28th March 2009, 10:47 PM
Scallion - sounds so strange.
I will eat the whole onion, like its showed in the picture, including the white thing.

29th March 2009, 01:07 PM
I'd have thought it'd be a case of 'including the green thing', isn't it the norm to eat the bulb? Like with onions. And the leaves are the extra part?

its not recommended that you plant an onion from the shop.. but try it let us know how you get on..
i have some onion seedlings outdoors, i started them indoors and now they look really bad and just flat on the floor, ill bring them indoors see if i can revive them....
you can grow the onion seeds like i am doing "spanish yellow"

I PLANTED 20 SMALL RED ONIONS IN MARCH NOW THEY HAVE GROWN VERY BIG. I JUST HARVESTED THEM YESTERDAY AND COUNTED THEM AND I NOW HAVE 80 ONIONS THESE TASTE WONDERFUL. (TIP ALWAYS BREAK OFF THE FLOWERS, BECAUSE THIS MAKES THE ONION GROW BIG, IF YOU DONT BREAK THE FLOWERS YOU WILL GET VERY SMALL ONIONS!):tumbleweed:

Oby this time i changed the strategy - i sow seeds , lot of seeds, i hope to see very soon some germination :)
~Obsidian~
6th July 2009, 07:57 AM
And hopefully you will do! Maybe you should 'stagger the grow' as in, sow a few seeds every week so they mature at different times, so you don't end up eating them all at once! They'll last longer that way! :goodpost:
Tania
6th July 2009, 08:00 AM
Next time i will do that. For this year i finished with the seeds and i will not sow more.
