Just thought I would give a little update on my roof garden:)

I've got the platforms built and oiled, and started putting some stuff on them...

The garlic is growing nicely, and the lettuce and chard has started sprouting.

Unfortunately I've killed off most of my tomato seedlings, as I wasn't here for a while and left them outside for one night. There wasn't any frost but it was obviously still too cold... :(

The herbs are doing ok though, and i've also planted some potatoes:)

The roof garden looks so cool! Very resourceful did you make the platform by yourself and those wooden pots? Interesting idea, I couldn't believe the size of the little evergreen at first like a bonsai!

:GreenThumbs: for the garden. What have you planted in the covered pots? near to the black pots.

Thanks everyone! There'll be lots more stuff there soon:)

My dad built the platforms for me when he came over to visit from Norway, following my specifications;) I might make another one on the other side of the skylight, but I thought it's enough space for a while anyway.

The wooden pots are wine crates, found on the side of the road and picked up for free:D

Tania: That's the rest of the tomatoes, the ones I didn't kill :P I thought I would give them some special protection as they seem to die otherwise....

Just a quick update, as you can see the platforms are pretty much filled up now, although some of the things are not there permanently. I've sowed nearly all of the vegetables and also some flowers to brighten it up a bit and attract the bees:)

On the foredeck I have nasturtiums (and potatoes), I though they could grow up this wheel and ramble over the side :)

That looks amazing rainbox! Just out of curiosity, does that platform nearest to you have a support in the middle? It seems to be caving in a little.

Yes! Yesterday I ate my first sugar snap pea:D And I did put some pak choi in salads, but coming back after a week in Cornwall I found they'd all gone to flower. Oh well!

I've also got 3 green tomatoes so far, and teeny weeny carrots.

I've moved your thread to this section because it's more of a showcase than a thread about veg.

Thanks Obsidian :)

Yep Farah, they were grown on the barge in buckets and hanging baskets. There's loads of them, enough to put some in a salad every day. Definitely a very easy and good thing to grow, not to mention pretty productive. And in terms of flavour the sugar snap peas in supermarkets don't come close!

And thanks Tania:)

Wow, just found this thread and it really is quite something.

I love boats anyway and when you add flowers they look great.

I live near a canal and always look out for people who have grown things on their boats.

Thanks Trurel!

This is my first year growing anything on her and I have to say it does make a huge difference! It's much nicer now :)

We get a lot of attention from tourists because of it too :P

I have some interesting news. I'll be leaving England and moving back to Norway in July. The barge is getting sold so I'll have nowhere to live anymore. Hopefully I'll find good homes for all my plants, and maybe I'll get to eat some before I go! It's quite sad to move and a bit rubbish to have grown all these plants and then not get to taste the outcome. Oh well, I guess there's always next year, wherever I may be by then!

Of course I'll still be on MuslimGrower, I'll just change my location. You're not getting rid of me that easily ;)

Oh that sucks :( but whatever floats your boat! :p (yeah I know it was bad, humour me! :D)

Out of interest, did the mini-garden increase the value of the barge?
