we grow trailing petunia, busy lizzie and lobelia as spring annuals in baskets. i normally prefer soil less media(more costly) in coco-fiber hanging baskets because they weigh less.
Right now i am growing following in hanging baskets:
ipomoea batata, hanging vinca, asparagus, spider plant, blue tradscentia, trailing violet, dichondra and annual portulaca

coco fiber is not easily available. its cost depends upon its quality. i bought at a price of 150 Rupees per kilogram and quality was just good. it is not very common medium here. even peat moss is not common here neither is recommended any more. people normally use sweat earth or garden soil mixed with some fertilizer for containers which does the job and cheap as well.

nopes. i dont feel i am skilled enough :). i buy leaf mold and cow dung manure and both are cheap here. Although lahore compost http://www.lahorecompost.com.pk (http://www.lahorecompost.com.pk/products.html) is commercially available but i find it a bit heavy for delicate flowering plants. hopefully in future i will make it on my own :P

I bought two hanging baskets and a packet of hanging basket flowers seed mix, what to do next? Should I germinate seeds in trays first and then plant them in the basket or is it ok to sow them straight in the basket?
