I remember my mom used to do this back at home (we have a big fish tank) - every time she needed to wash the tank she'd use all the filthy water to water her plants, and they always did really well... I guess that water has tons of nitrogen and other useful stuff in it, plus you're reusing water!!

One of my friends is keeping turtles in his room (they're not allowed, shhhhh ;) ) and he has a HUUUUUUUGE tank that he cleans out about every month or so. I asked him if I could have some of the dirty water and he said sure (not like he's not going to do anything with it :) ) and I think I will be watering my plants with it once a week - only the big plants like the pineapple plant and the lemon tree and maybe the avocado, but not for my rose or tomato seedlings just yet...

Make sure there are no chemicals added to the water before you use it (I think the water drops you put in for the fish should be okay, since the fish and water plants are ok with it.)

no point in it going down the sink when you pay for it and if its even more beneficial for your plants then bonus all around.. maybe [don't wanna sound gross] but it has something to do with fish poo, fish food tends to be made of flakes of other less fortunate fish, vitamins etc.. the part on medicated fish food is interesting:

That is a excellent idea, but with fish be careful when you clean the tank because with most fish (like Goldfish) they dont like to be taken out of their tank and then put back in - because the totally fresh tapwater gives them a type of shock - you can read up on this, so it is recommended that you empty 1/2 the tank out, and then add 1/2 fresh water - so the fish never leaves the tank! that is the best way to ensure the health of your fish!

On a related note you would not believe what i saw a local garden centre (called "theRange" shop) they had chicken droppings in a cereal-like box retailing at £4.99 !

you know that they say..where there is muck there is $ :D

I've never heard that..who on Earth have you been hanging out with? :D

Hmm...what if you have sick fish? Does that taint the water for the plants?
