I know it's a bit early for New Year's resolutions, but I've decided one of mine will be to grow some veg and herbs. I have a fair sized patch of soil in my garden which isn't being used, but here's the problem I keep seeing rats in my garden . The last thing I want to do is give them food to survive on! Is there anyway to get around this??? And before you suggest growing inside, my house is already full of the results of my little brother's green fingers.
Thanks
Sarah

You need to call the rat catchers  No you need to contact your council and tell them your seeing rats in your garden and chew on your washing..OR you could get those big rat traps and put 'em everywhere.
I pray your rats die.
Take Care.

Thanks for your prayers.
The council already know about them. There's an infestation of them and I live near woods and fields etc. There isn't much they can do about it. Their not there constantly, but they come and go.

Waht?! Haven't they at least put down traps for you? I'd tell you to put a wire/mesh perimeter around your veg (that way rain and sun could get through but they can't) but rats are pretty dextrous...can get into almost anything!!
If you can make a solid structure with fine mesh (it would have to extend a bit underground so that they can't dig under it, and tough enough for them not to chew through -so preferably metal - and completely enclosed, so even the top should be covered too), pretty drastic measures I know, and thats me taking a guess! I wouldn't put down poison because you never know what other wildlife could munch on it!
Good luck with it and let us know what you decide!

Hi sarah..
So is that why you're brother grows indoors because of the RATS..
Hmm tricky one, i have not that problem at the moment, but we live in a "throw away society" and in London in the evenings you can see the rats cross the road, and they are huge, ill get back to ya, see what i can find out..

You need those big traps, put some meat on it and watch if you don't catch any Ill change my name!
If I were you I'd give every mate a pot so she can grow it in her house until the rats don't die, and then visit frequently to see how their doing, Im sure they won't mind :)

yep.
rat traps do work, its messy and you have to dispose of the dead body ( gross) You will have to get yourself a cat as tania suggested, I am not a cat fancier to be honest, but looks like to you they may be the lesser of the 2 evils..
