i last had this fruit on my holiday in pk this year from a mature tree in a uncles garden.
yesterday i discovered them in green street
they're said to be similar to a pear with brown sugar i liken them more to dates that have a grainy texture.
they are said to be slow growing. I've read that they aren't fussy towards soil
type and grow easy and when mature they can survive hours of frost so i am hoping i can grow them out doors when big enough(thinking ahead)
so heres a lazy mans guide to growing
1. give them quick rinse to get rid of any residue
2. if you don't want to use instantly let them dry quickly and keep dry. can last years and stay viable this way
3. you can use most soils so long as they are well drained the plant wont care to much. for sprouting i recommend multi-purpose with a hint of sand perlite
4. once sprouted keep warm first 2 years it wont grow much but after that
should speed up slightly i think after 5-6 years it will be mature

I have some in tissue the shells have just cracked on all four seeds. I've seen people grow it here and it successfully fruited. So I'll give it a shoot.

I still don't see any sprout, since I potted it, guess I'll have to wait. I don't want to dig it up or be too hasty. Seems like you got a good sprouting seed there! Well done.

I have seen & eaten them in Pakistan and Bahrain. Here in West I think they are grown in Mexico and probably California.

My husband is addicted to this stuff but you gotta be carefull not to eat to much, as its hot in temperament and yeah, can give you the runs :animal0019:
Anyway, this fruit was grown in hotter climates right? will i have any sucess here in the UK?
