does anyone have a pond &? fishes? There is a space in our garden where there used to be a pond but the neighbours apple tree hangs over it so would it be dangerous to recreate the pond?

salaam farah..

I don't have a pond seriously looking into one though.. The apple tree branches hanging over should not pose any problems as they can be cut and pruned back. A pond is a delight for any garden and i would love to have one for mine. My brothers friend has a huge pond in his garden filled with koi fish and solar lights it looks amazing in the evenings. How big is the space for the pond.. you can have a small pond and it can still look really amazing. There are so many "how to build a pond" youtube videos out there you'll be amazed what can be achieved by a very small pond :)

As mentioned by Riz there's no danger in starting the pond up again with an apple tree over it, all u need to do is prune the branches back and with the higher branches best way is with a telescopic lopper (from Wilkos, B&Q, Aldi etc) which will save you having to climb any ladders and they are very easy to use.

Ponds are great and once complete add a brilliant focal point to any garden!

thank you for the tips, i'll have to leave of the pond until the :freezing: period is over but it's definitley something you can be very creative with, with the apple tree i just don't want any over the fishies to be smacked by fruit dropping on to them etc and the space is pretty large compared to the rest of the garden (200cms lengthwise and around 75cms wide), i suppose you could dig it quite deep as well fish do tend to grow quite large if they have the room to
