I started growing dragon fruit recently

i threw some seeds in regular multi-purpose lightly covered with compost and kept moist
i got quite a lot of sprouts and they grow quite slowly (inadequate light because i started late)

No unfortunately I'm in the US :(

I visited London a few years ago and had the opportunity to go through Chinatown. We had the most AMAZING Chinese food there!!! I didn't see any plants though :( :tree-huggin:

dormancy is such a boring thing, but we have better weather now so hopefully they will start growing, most of them died when i let my parents look after them for a while

Nope. Stumbled across this site: http://www.tradewindsfruitstore.com/servlet/StoreFront

Reviews of them seemed good enough, so I bought. I used their free shipping and the seeds arrived very quickly, so I'm happy so far. Just gotta hope they germinate now.

Have you sow them? or do they need a summer weather for germination??

Finally got some potting soil and planted 24 seeds, 12 white and 12 pink, in a clear plastic egg container that I had. Probably overkill, but at least I'll have enough if they sprout !

Also started some earlier in the week via the paper towel/baggie method just because I didn't feel like waiting. Hopefully I'll get results soon from one of them.

The four seeds I started via the paper towel/baggie method have started sprouting:

Ones I planted in soil germinated very quickly, too. Think almost all of them germinated, though some much quicker than others. This is the biggest one.

Growing faster than I'd thought they would.

Eight days since I planted the seeds and I've now moved the largest into peat pellets:

Day 39

Growing at a pretty decent rate now that the cactus formed.

Out of the ones that germinated, I only kept two. The other one's cactus is just starting.

Still going to grow my seedlings, but I ordered a cutting of a good named variety the other day. Guess he included a second cutting because it took him so long to get it shipped.

The one I ordered is called Physical Graffiti, second one is White Sapphire, which I've never heard of.

First time growing a cutting of anything, so hopefully I don't murder it.

cool.. is that how you received them in the post !!!?

They arrived in a small box, wrapped in bubble wrap and newspaper. I just popped them in those two small pots until they root. I'd say the cuttings are both about a foot (~30 cm) long.

Both cuttings have started rooting and this one, the White Sapphire, is beginning to put out new growth.

Only been about two weeks since I potted them up, so pretty good speed.

yah that was pretty quick...

Something went wrong with the new growth on the White Sapphire variety and I snapped it off just to be safe and it has yet to produce anymore.

The Physical Graffiti, however, suddenly took off about 2 weeks ago. It's growing so fast that you can see it has bent towards the sunlight in the afternoon.

Little white spot on the new growth is the beginnings of an aerial root. Little black speck is a baby spider I have picked off the plant just about daily.

The White Sapphire is the one with the two long growths and the one I ordered, Physical Graffiti, is the one with only two nubs of growth.

The Physical Graffiti actually had a big growth like the other one, but the day I went to buy the pot it's now in I didn't get home until dark, and the next morning it had rained and the new growth had been snapped off. Rage.

It actually has two spots of new growth now, though, so that's a plus.

Heres some pics from about a month ago....many of them broke the soil but i keep finding this smaller caterpillar and all of my dragon fruit sprouts had disappeared...and i keep getting rid of the caterpillar and it keeps coming bak....and the ones that are still there don't seem to be growing much...hopefully it doesn't take a year for them to get a little bigger
