So who here is getting their spring gardens ready by planting their bulbs now?
Now is the time to plant stuff like daffodils, irises, tulips etc

I just bought red hyacinth and narcissus bulbs yesterday, will plant them in a little over a week when I go home and officially have land again :) I wish I had bought two bags of the red hyacinth, I've never seen them before...

nice haul kirsten :)
i had the blue hyacinth growing last season, although it didnt grow more than 8 inches in height it was pretty to look at, are you going to plant the narcissus bulbs in your garden directly or in a pot or both :)

I think I'll plant them directly in the ground. We have an old grill that fell apart, and I read that it's a good idea to use the rack thing in the middle where you put the food (sorry, I don't know what it's called) on the ground to keep squirrels from digging up the bulbs. We all know about my squirrel problems...
I love hyacinth, we have purple and pink at home :)

laying out stucco wire or chicken wire will work too to prevent critters digging in your garden. You can get it at any hardware store and it's not that expensive

I was going to buy some tulip bulbs (ten for a quid) but I dunno...will they be able to stand being in partial shade? Cuz I don't wanna put them in the full sunlight patches, those are reserved for fruit and veg :AF2FlowerA036:

This site (http://www.mywebgarden.com/articles/flower_types/tulip_description.html) claims that "locations that receive 4 to 6 hours of sunlight and also enjoy partial shade are ideal" for tulips so I think you should be good :) My packages (although not tulips) are also calling for partial sun.

you can get half price tulips in mid November as people usually plant them well before that and the shops try to sell all the bulbs before then, all the popular bulbs are usually sold well before November though..
