Is that a variegated plant? And..it's climbing isn't it (can't tell from the pic) is it on a vine?
Oh, and would you be able to identify it if you saw the name on a list (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houseplant_care#Data_for_some_common_houseplants)?
Think it might be this one (http://www.houseofplants.co.uk/Epipremnum_aureum.htm) - Epipremnum aureum (Scindapsus aureus) AKA Devils Ivy
It's not a philodendron (http://www.houseofplants.co.uk/Philodendron_scandens_Sweetheart_Plant.htm) is it?
Heres the index (http://www.houseofplants.co.uk/indexofplants.html)

that is a variegated philodendron. It is mildly poisonous so if you have pets that like to chew on plants or young children, it might be best to put it up and out of the way.
From looking at that pic, it looks like it is getting a lot of indirect light. If you reduce the light a bit, ie move it to a darker place, the light patches on the leaves will increase and make it much more dramatic. All it takes is a couple of days a month to bring this out. I place mine in a closet for 2 or 3 days at a time and keep the door shut and then bring it back out again

The most common is yucca filamentosa (variegated - 'Bright Edge') - Adams needle. It looks like yours :)

Thanks for your help Tania - Yes the filamentosa is quite common but I found out (took a while!) that it is a "Dracaena Deremensis" or "janet craig plant"
I've attached a PDF which gives more details.

It looks exactly like yours :). Its good you found out because now you can apply the right treatment for the plant.

I think I've got it! Sedum Spathulifolium 'Cape Blanco'. Hope I'm right!
http://www.hillkeep.ca/images/Sedum_spathulifolium_groundcover.jpg
Here's how I found that - noted that the flowers were yellow, and that it appeared to be a succulent. Thought the leaves looked very 'rosette' like, so I used that as my search term. Googled it as an image search and whenever I found something that looked similar I'd google image search that particular species to get a general idea of how it looked (so as not to base judgement on how the particular species in the pic might look).
Other possible matches could have been
Graptopetalum Paraguayense
and
Sempervivum Montanum
but the flowers looked spot on in alot of the pictures for Cape Blanco
! If I wanted to be doubly sure could still do a characteristic/growing environment search but I canny be bothered :o

hehe excellent, thank you so much! :cheerleader: i will be looking in to the cape blanco, its such a mysterious looking plant I wonder where the person who lived here before bought it from, thought it may be a Chinese flower... but maybe its used to distract snails the two in the pic seem quite preoccupied with it.
Description: 2in (5cm). Evergreen. Succulent rosettes of greyish-white leaves, sometimes tinged with purple. Minute yellow flowers in May and June. Poisonous.
Cultivation: Fully hardy. Sun and fertile, well drained soil.
